Pens: A Disappearing Act

I truly believe this is one of life’s greatest mysteries. No matter what, pens will continue to disappear on us. But what I want to know is where the hell do they go?

Don’t you find yourself constantly buying new packs of pens, only to eventually lose those too? Sure, pens eventually run out of ink, but I think for every 12 pack of pens I buy, I remember tossing out just one because it was no longer functional.

We’ve all borrowed a pen and accidentally kept it, which may also explain why we lose pens too, but then somehow manage to lose that pen we just borrowed!

So I ask you this, pens:

WHERE ARE YOU GOING AND WHY ARE YOU HIDING FROM US!

Ah, the secret lives of pens.

Seems to me like they must get lonely. If you don't have your own mug, or a bunch of friends hanging in some type of drawer, the solitude drives a pen mad. The only thing they can do is cut loose, and set out looking for other pens in similar situations. They leave behind the unappreciated lonesomeness of a cold, hard desk to seek out friendlier surfaces. Perhaps some pens get old and move to Florida? There must be a place where these pens gather to share their stories, and commiserate. Perhaps at a coffee shop in Nebraska. The Inky Java - Home to ballpoints and dried-up inkwells...

I for one feel sorry for these neglected instruments. These tools can be used to create beauty through words and pictures; artwork through sketching and shading. For them, this sad story is all too familiar... (types John on a computer, with 3 pens laying on the desk in front of him)
